                                                                                                                                A unit designed specifically
                                                                                                                                    for Year 9 students.

Urban stormwater pollution poses a serious threat to healthy waterways and the marine environment. Contrary to popular belief it is individuals, not large businesses, are the main causes of pollution in our stormwater. Creating stormwater awareness is a vital action if we are to improve the quality of discharge entering our waterways.

Students will undertake a field investigation visiting sites along a local river or stream
- from its source to mouth.  They will observe characteristics such as:

.

•    landforms

•    water quality

•    surrounding vegetation

•    land use

•    river/stream width and depth

•    water velocity

•    stream morphology

•    classification of human and natural resources.

Students will describe the effects of human activities on the river and analyse the impact on the surrounding environment.
